| Stockwell Partnership is the winner of the Best Community Partnership Initiative at the London Planning Awards 2003.
The Mayor of London presented the Stockwell Partnership with the Best Community Partnership Initiative award at the London Planning Awards 2003. The awards, run jointly by the Mayor of London, London First and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), recognise outstanding planning achievements by individuals or organisations.
Lucy Annan, Chair of the Stockwell Partnership, said:
"This award is a fantastic tribute to the people of Stockwell, the great deal of hard work has been done by our ever-increasing staff, and above all to the many volunteers who have given their time since the Partnership started in 1996. 2003 is a very exciting time for Stockwell. Last year our area was awarded £6 million from the European Union under the Urban ll Community Initiative - the only programme of its type in London."
The judges said of the south London voluntary group:
"Partnership, energy and innovation in its truest form. The Stockwell Partnership is a charity which has brought about real improvement to Stockwell's public realm and provides services to local residents. This is planning outside traditional parameters, relating to what really matters to local communities while building up planning initiatives."
Lucy Annan concluded:
"We are keen to move away from our dependency on grant aid and would love to secure an asset to future proof the community led regeneration of Stockwell beyond 2005. If anyone here is feeling benevolent and would like to help us secure an asset, we can't wait to talk to you!"
