| Our sister organisation, Stockwell Refugee Women's Centre (SRWC), was established by Stockwell Partnership in September 2003 in partnership with Lambeth Somali Community Association. SRWC has flourished since then and has its own management committee and over 80 members.
SRWC runs regular sewing and English classes and opened its own creche facility in 2004. It operates a popular weekly coffee morning sessions where local refugee and settler women socialise, access complimentary therapy and take part in workshops on topics such as female genital mutilation, health and nutrition. It also organises family trips out of London to places like Butlin's and Legoland.
The centre receives core funding from the Stockwell Partnership's Urban II CCP project and is supported by the Partnership's advocate, Radia Ahmed. It has also been successful in raising its own funds from Trust for London, Sure Start and Lambeth Council. It has recently produced its first development plan and has submitted an application to the Lottery for funds for its first worker.
SRWC is applying to become a charity and is currently running a training course in childcare for local women. For more information on SRWC contact Radia Ahmed at radia@stockwell.org.uk
