Stockwell Changes / Neighbourhood Enhancement Project
We are undertaking a major Stockwell Changes consultation to establish Stockwell’s changing needs and to update the Stockwell Neighbourhood Action Plan. We have created a 3D model of the area and are taking it to various venues including Stockwell Festival and the Forum. This will help us identify areas in which we can pilot community-led commissioning as one of the Cooperative Council’s Early Adopters.
We are now also working in partnership with Lambeth’s Transport department to extend the consultation as part of the Neighbourhood Enhancement Project to cover neighbouring areas including Vassall, Oval, Coldharbour, Ferndale, Clapham Old Town, as well as the northern part of Herne Hill ward. In these areas we are particularly looking at transport- and environment-related improvements.
Consultation events are taking place on:
- 18 November, 2 to 6pm - South Lambeth Library, 180 South Lambeth Road, SW8 1QP
- 26 November, 10 to 3pm - Oval Farmers Market Sat 3
- 3 December, 12 to 3pm, 10-17 Papa Park 10 to 17 Pulross Road, SW9 8AF
- 10 December, 11 to 2pm - Clapham Methodist Church, Clapham High Street, SW4 7JR .
The first stage of consultation ends Friday 16 December 2011. Design proposals informed by the process will be consulted on in March to April 2012. For further information and updated events visit www.lambeth.gov.uk/nep
Building Cohesion in Stockwell
We have secured funding for a three-year programme from City Bridge Trust to work in partnership with the global peacebuilding organisation, International Alert, to improve community cohesion in Stockwell. We are working with a range of community groups from different backgrounds to build their skills and confidence to articulate and develop a better vision for Stockwell.
Bilingual Advocacy Service
Our advocacy team provide black and minority ethnic communities throughout the borough with translation and support services through our contract with Lambeth Early Years. The work focused on families with children under five, in eight of the most common languages spoken by refugees and settlers in Lambeth: Somali, Amharic, Arabic, Tigrinya, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Polish. We encourage and support over 2500 clients p.a. to use and take full advantage of the services on offer in their local Children's Centres.
Portugese Advice and capacity Buildings project
With funding from the BIG Lottery, we run a Portuguese advice service (weekday mornings) and undertake community development work with Portuguese groups. We have established a new Portuguese Speaker's Association group and are currently developing two new groups, one supporting older people and the other encouraging creativity and independence.
Stockwell Festival
The eleventh Stockwell Festival was held in Larkhall Park on 17th September 2011, with funding from the Lambeth Community Fund. The themes this year were Peace, Cohesion and Inclusion, and we delivered it alongside Oasis Children's Venture and Access Events.
Despite the weather, the Festival was a great success with over 2,000 people turning out to have fun and celebrate. We are currently looking for funding for the 2012 Festival – please contact us if you have ideas or wish to help!
Stockwell Forum
We are responsible for the delivery of the Stockwell Forum. which is regularly attended by 30+ local people. The forum is part of the Lambeth Forum Network, which is supported by Lambeth council. The Stockwell forums focus on local issues, and as well as providing opportunities for debate and discussion with professionals and councillors. Increasingly we wish to use the forums to celebrate Stockwell's vibrant and diverse community.
